Baguio City Celebrates as 35 Barangays Awarded Prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance

In a major accomplishment for the city, 35 barangays in Baguio have been conferred the coveted Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangays (SGLGB) by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for the year 2023. This recognition stands as a remarkable testament to the tireless efforts and unwavering commitment of the barangay officials and personnel in serving their communities to the highest standards of good governance.

The Baguio City Council, through Resolution No. 315, series of 2024, commended the achievements of these 35 barangays, stating that their success “stands as a resounding testament to the tireless efforts, unwavering determination and steadfast commitment of the respective barangay officials and personnel to serving their communities, ensuring that the needs of their constituents are addressed with compassion and efficiency while upholding the principles of good governance to the highest standards.”

The SGLGB is an annual performance assessment and recognition program that evaluates barangays across various governance areas, including financial administration and sustainability, disaster preparedness and safety, peace and order, social protection and sensitivity, business-friendliness and competitiveness, and environmental management. Barangays must meet stringent criteria in these core and essential areas to be conferred the prestigious seal.

The 35 Baguio City barangays that were awarded the SGLGB for 2023 are: AZKCO, Atok Trail, Camdas subdivision, fort del Pilar, Kabayanihan, Burnham-Legarda, Lourdes Subdivision Extension, Lower Lourdes Subdivision, Palma-Urbano, Lower Quirino Hill, Teodora Alonzo, Trancoville, Bakakeng Central, Camp 7, Camp Allen, City Camp Central, Dominican Hill-Mirador, Engineer’s Hill, Fairview, Hillside, Middle Quirino Hill, Kias, Loakan-Liwanag, Loakan Proper, Upper Market Subdivision, MRR Queen of Peace, Upper Quirino-Magsaysay, Upper Rock Quarry, Imelda Village, San Antonio Village, San Roque Village, Sto. Tomas Proper, Scout Barrio, Session Road-Gov. Pack road and Pacdal.

The council noted that this remarkable achievement has brought great honor and distinction to the city, as Baguio posted the highest number of national SGLGB passers in the entire Cordillera region, with an impressive passing rate of 27 percent.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong expressed his pride and congratulations to the barangay officials and personnel, stating, “This recognition is a testament to your unwavering dedication and commitment to serving your communities with excellence. Your achievements have set a new benchmark for good governance and service delivery in Baguio City.”

The city government will continue to support and empower these barangays to maintain their high standards and further enhance their service delivery to the people of Baguio.
