In a testament to their commitment to effective and efficient governance, four barangays in the province of Antique have been awarded the Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangay (SGLGB) in 2023 by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The barangays that received this prestigious recognition are Semirara in Caluya town, Apgahan and Magsaysay in Patnongon, and Igbonglo in San Jose de Buenavista. This achievement marks the second time that Barangay Semirara has been listed as an SGLGB passer.

Barangay Captain Catherine Lim of Semirara expressed her elation at the news, stating on her Facebook page, “Semiraranhons, we made it to the SGLB list again! For the second time around, BLGU Semirara is once again listed as one of the Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangay 2023 passers.”

The SGLGB is a performance assessment and recognition system designed to distinguish barangays with outstanding performance across various governance areas, including financial administration and sustainability, disaster preparedness and safety, and peace and order. The program aims to encourage barangays to continuously improve their delivery of efficient, equitable, and quality public services.

In total, 64 barangays in the Western Visayas region were recognized as SGLGB 2023 passers, according to DILG Region 6. This achievement serves as a testament to the dedicated efforts of local government units in the region to prioritize good governance and the well-being of their communities.

The DILG has announced that the SGLGB will continue to employ the established “3+1” assessment framework across all 42,041 barangays in the country for the calendar year 2024. This initiative strives for sustained improvement in governance practices, ultimately empowering local communities through recognition and fostering developmental initiatives.
